DDoS Attack
A DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is a targeted overload of a server, network, or online service to make it inaccessible. This involves sending an enormous number of requests from many different computers (often compromised systems in a botnet) simultaneously until the target's resources are exhausted.
The goal is to overload the affected website, app, or online infrastructure to such an extent that it is no longer accessible to genuine users.
Examples
- An online store is attacked during a discount campaign and is unavailable for hours, resulting in lost sales.
- An appointment booking platform is paralyzed, preventing customers from booking appointments.
- A company is blackmailed: “Pay us X amount or we'll shut down your server.”
