Professional Indemnity Insurance for Martial Arts Instructors and Self-Defense Trainers

As a martial arts instructor or self-defense trainer, you are not required to take out Professional Indemnity Insurance. However, even minor carelessness during training, courses, or individual training sessions can lead to injuries. In addition, damage to training equipment or rented course rooms can quickly become expensive. Therefore, martial arts instructors and self-defense trainers should take out professional liability insurance.

With liability insurance for martial arts instructors, you benefit from worldwide coverage. This means that you are not only covered in your own classrooms, but also during company courses, outdoor training, courses and training sessions, exams at other locations, and visits to trade fairs or seminars abroad.

The liability insurance for martial arts instructors and self-defense trainers from exali covers you and all employees of your business. This includes the following persons:

• Legal representatives of the policyholder,
• senior and other employees of the policyholder, marginal employees, volunteers, trainees, interns, and working students,
• temporary agency workers integrated into the policyholder's business, freelancers (natural persons),
• insofar as they act on behalf of and on the instructions of the policyholder, shareholders, limited partners, partners, supervisory board members, and advisory board members (natural persons)

Insurance coverage also applies to third-party liability claims against the insured arising from
the commissioning of external companies/subcontractors. The personal liability of external companies/subcontractors and their employees is not insured.
Insured companies are:

• the policyholder, subsidiaries, branches, and offices of the policyholder in Germany and in the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA),
• Subsidiaries of the policyholder outside the EEA, provided that these are expressly named in the insurance policy.

The premium is based on factors such as previous year's turnover, the amount of coverage selected, and additional modules. Insurance for self-defense instructors is available from a minimum premium of € 133,10 net p.a.. With the online calculator, you can calculate your individual contribution transparently without entering any personal data.

Yes – damage to training equipment or aids used in the course of your coaching activities is covered.

The notice period is one month to the end of the insurance year. exali offers a minimum term of one year or three years (with a 10 percent discount). If the one-month notice period is not observed, the contract is automatically extended for another insurance year.

However, a special right of termination exists in the following cases:

• Increase in contributions without adjustment of benefits (adjustments due to an increase in turnover or the elimination of the start-up discount are not included)
• Tätigkeitswegfall (z. B. Freelancer wechselt in die Festanstellung)
• After settling a claim
• If contributions have been overpaid, they will be refunded on a pro rata basis.

If you temporarily suspend your business activities, your insurance coverage will remain in place as usual. This is important in order to ensure that you are also protected against any claims that customers may subsequently make against you. If you cease your business activities completely, you have an extraordinary right of termination at the time of notification of the cessation. In this case, we will of course refund any overpaid premiums.
