The optional Engineering Activities (ENG) add-on extends cover to engineering services within the scope of your professional activities.

Insured engineering activities

The ENG add-on covers engineering services within the scope of your professional activities. The activities listed in the "Engineering" add-on are illustrative examples and include:

• Hardware and software development in the field of machinery and plant engineering, including embedded software
• Technical design, engineering drawings and CAD/CAM services
• Prototyping, functional prototypes, proof-of-concepts and comparable development and testing services
• Tests, simulations and project-related commissioning or support for such activities
• Robotics services, particularly in development, test or operational environments
• Development, planning and integration services in the field of renewable energy systems, e.g. solar, wind, hybrid and storage solutions
• Engineering and process optimisation services in regulated environments, particularly GMP environments, e.g. pharmaceuticals and biotech

Requirements for Engineering Insurance

• Your services and work relate to a functionally distinct technical unit, such as a software module, control logic, PLC or CNC program, HMI application or interface component, which can be tested independently of the overall system.
• You do not assume independent overall responsibility for the planning, design or functionality of an entire plant or complete technical system.
• Supporting participation in the integration of your technical unit into an overall system is covered, provided that you do not assume overall coordination or overall responsibility for the system.
• You are not responsible for ongoing production or series operation, series production readiness or placing the end product on the market. Claims and damage resulting from the use or operation of an accepted service by the client or third parties are not insured.

Do you need the Engineering Clause for your IT Liability?

You need it if you perform engineering activities covered by the ENG add-on. For example, if you develop hardware or software for machinery and plant engineering, program control or automation software, provide technical design or CAD/CAM services, perform testing or commissioning, or provide other insured engineering services.

Because the engineering clause you choose is integrated in our comprehensive IT-coverage, risks arising from IT activities are automatically insured at no extra premium. This can be an advantage when IT and engineering activities overlap in projects.

Insured Sums and Deductible

The sum insured for financial losses selected for your Financial Loss Insurance (FLI) also applies to the Engineering Activities (ENG) add-on. The deductible for financial losses specified in your insurance policy applies.
